COVID-19 Update

COVID-19 May 8 Update
Posted on 05/08/2020

To Students and Families of the Class of 2020 and the Fife Community,

We would like to thank you for your patience, allowing us time to make thoughtful decisions regarding graduation. We've waited as long as possible, but we are sad to share that we now must officially cancel our June 12th graduation ceremony at the Showare Center. It is clear at this point that gathering rules will not allow for our original ceremony date to take place.

In Fife we have not yet ruled out a rescheduled live event. With the release of Governor Inslee’s gathering restriction phase-in approach, it is conceivable that late in the summer a live event would be permissible. We have set a date for Saturday July 25th at Fife High School’s football stadium. The time of day, distancing perimeters, and details for this ceremony are still to be determined.

It is also possible, according to the governor’s plan, that in-person events, even in late July, still might not be permissible. In this case, we would have to cancel our rescheduled date. It is with that understanding that we are also preparing for a Fife graduation ceremony utilizing a video format. The district and Fife High School are actively planning new events for our Fife Seniors, events which started earlier today, and will culminate in this video graduation ceremony. The video format graduation ceremony will premiere on Saturday June 20th at 7PM. More information on how we will prepare for the creation of the video will be communicated soon.

In Fife, we believe in making powerful moments for our students. This belief does not diminish with the unfortunate reality in which we are living. The traditional Fife graduation ceremony is a remarkable event, and we will do our best, working within the rules provided by the Governor and the health department, to make the best of this difficult situation and make our end of the year remarkable in its own right. Look for additional information and details regarding the FHS Graduation Plan from Mr. Bakke coming soon.
