Statement about Recent News at Columbia Junior High

Dear Fife/Milton/Edgewood Community Members,

Situations such as the one that recently surfaced at the City of Fife’s Summer Day Camp are truly unfortunate and often leave us wondering how such an event can occur.  Fife School District works in conjunction with the city to house this camp on our campus as part of our interlocal agreement.  I need to make it clear that this camp is not part of the school district.  Unfortunately for us when the news broke regarding the charges, our district became a focal point of the news.  Certainly not accurate reporting in my view.  Below is a link to a copy of the notice sent to the parents of the children enrolled in the city summer camp for clarifying purposes.  I trust when talking to the city leadership that they handled a very difficult situation as well as it can be handled.  The investigation continues with the Fife Police Department.

Also linked below is a notice sent to the parents of participants of Wonderland Theater.  Wonderland Theater is run by our distinguished drama instructors Teresa and Dave Hockman.  There is no connection between the two experiences except that they both take place at Columbia Junior High.

In closing, our hearts go out to the victims and their families.  As names are released, we will work with families of our district to provide support and care when school begins in September.

Sincerely,

John McCrossin

Superintendent
