Dear Fife School District Community,
Our Fife campus schools (Fife High School and Columbia Junior High School only) went into a modified lockdown earlier today at the request of the Fife Police Department. A patient had walked away from the mental health facility on Freeman Road in Fife. It was reported that he was on foot and headed in a direction away from our schools, but we took precaution to lock down the valley schools which are in the general vicinity. A robotic text message from the city of Fife did go out about the description to many people including our staff just prior to them lifting the lockdown at around 1:30. We were told not to lock down our Milton campuses as the person was being tracked away from that direction. While the patient has not been recovered, our local law enforcement is confident enough that he has left our area that they have lifted any lockdowns. Diligence is always in order. While we never felt we were in any real danger it was a good test of the protocol for this type. I simply want parents to be aware of what did occur as the words “modified lockdown” can be scary. Please know that in a modified lockdown, our schools lock all perimeter doors and students are held inside while classes continue. We are not in any immediate threat but simply in precautionary mode.
While the patient is believed to be out of our area, and thus the lifting of any precautions, please help the local authorities and remain on the lookout. The following is the description that was given by the Fife Police Department:
