As school begins this fall students and families will notice a change in our schedule: Late Start Mondays. We realize this will be an adjustment for students and families and so wanted to provide you with advanced notice as well as give you the rationale behind this change.
From Superintendent McCrossin's most recent community newsletter published in Fife Free Press:
"...our school board has agreed to give us consistent staff development time to address these systemic needs, along with needed curriculum work to align ourselves with the newly adopted National Common Core Standards. Our goal is to have disciplined conversations about quality instruction in the classroom and establishing common assessments which lead to specific interventions to help all students learn at high levels. We will have a one-hour late start every Monday beginning September 9, except on the weeks of elementary conferences and the week of Thanksgiving break. In exchange for this shorter but more consistent collaboration time, the district in partnership with the FEA (Fife Education Association) requested that we reduce the number of early dismissal days throughout the year. There are still a few on the calendar to prepare for elementary conferences and secondary finals but majority have been eliminated. I want to thank the school board for their vision and support of this decision."By keeping the late start on a consistent day and removing most of our early dismissal days we have tried to make this the least disruptive for families as we could. As always, we appreciate your support as we do our best to ensure we are providing quality learning experiences for your children.
